OBJECTIVE
This paper manufacturer has a continuous demand for steam operating the main boiler at 75% load on a continuous basis. Although the boiler was equipped with a tubular air heater, the client desired further fuel savings. A Combustion & Energy Systems sensible heat recovery unit was installed recapturing waste heat from flue gas and reducing plant fuel usage.
SOLUTION
Paperboard Industries ordered turnkey supply/installation heat recovery system from Combustion & Energy Systems. The installation was performed in a new second duct allowing the customer to operate during the construction phase. The new system is located indoors in a bypass arrangement so it will never have cause to take the boiler down.
BENEFITS
Reduction in boiler fuel consumption
Increased efficiency reduced overall plant emissions
Project paid back on equipment and installation within 8 months

BACKGROUND
Combustion & Energy Systems Ltd completed a comprehensive emissions and energy efficiency retrofit for Ford Canada, involving the following key performance aspects:
5 - Coen low NOx burners for boilers
3- Standard boiler feedwater economizers
Dual-fuel (Natural gas/No. 2 oil) firing capability.

BENEFITS
The project resulted in a substantial increase in energy efficiency and delivered an excellent return on investment payback – less than 2.5 years on an installed basis.
