The ARCTIC Hot Water Production Challenge was an innovation challenge resulting from a partnership between Foresight Canada, Imperial Oil, and the Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA). Starting in 2016, the goal was to develop and implement a solution which would help Imperial Oil reduce energy consumption and emissions related to oil mining operations in the Alberta oil sands. Combustion & Energy Systems Ltd. won the challenge with our ConDex technology, and delivered commercial-scale heat recovery from natural gas fired boilers on a scale never seen before.

“Challenge winner Combustion and Energy Systems Ltd. delivered a solution that not only saved energy, but reduced emissions and water use intensity as well. As a result of the challenge, Imperial installed six of Combustion and Energy System’s ConDex units designed to recover waste energy from boilers used for oil sands mining operations in Alberta.”

Members of the Combustion & Energy Systems Ltd. team made an appearance on the Cleantech Forward Podcast to discuss the project. Listen below.
